This would be a simple enough question if asked in a school history exam, and you had half an hour to write an essay. But as a quiz question it leaves a lot to be desired; there are too many possible answers.
Wikipedia suggests several in its opening paragraphs:

| • | To replace James I with his nine–year–old Catholic daughter Elizabeth |
The answer given on the sheet is another possibility; one more that I can think of is "to blow up the Houses of Parliament".
History.com suggests "to end the persecution of Roman Catholics by the English government" and "to replace the country's Protestant government with Catholic leadership".
